Connecting to an Oracle database
In DB Best Migration Platform, you can connect to an Oracle Database as a source database and as a target database (only for upgrade projects). Use the following procedure to connect to your Oracle database.
- Press Ctrl+N or click the New button to create a new project.
- Select Oracle in the Source Platform or Target Platform drop-down list.
- If the Oracle OLE DB Driver is not installed on your PC, you will need to install it.
- After installing the driver, restart DB Best Migration Platform and get back to item 1.
- Select the SID option in the Connection mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to the Oracle database in the standard mode.
- Specify the Server name in the appropriate field. You can enter it manually or select it from the drop-down list (if it has been used already).
- Provide the rest of connection information to the Oracle database: Server Port, Oracle SID, Schema name, and User name. You can manually enter these values or select them from drop-down lists.
- Enter the Password to complete the information about Oracle database connection.
- Check the Use SSL option to establish a secure connection to the Oracle database. Make sure that the Oracle wallet is configured and your database server supports the SSL connection.
- Press the Connect button to establish the connection to your Oracle database. If the connection credentials you specified are wrong, the application will display the error message.
- Select the Service name option in the Connection mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to the Oracle database in the standard mode.
- Specify the Server name in the appropriate field. You can enter it manually or select it from the drop-down list (if it has been used already).
- Provide the rest of connection information to the Oracle database: Server Port, Oracle service name, Schema name, and User name. You can manually enter these values or select them from drop-down lists.
- Enter the Password to complete the information about Oracle database connection.
- Check the Use SSL option to establish a secure connection to the Oracle database. Make sure that the Oracle wallet is configured and your database server supports the SSL connection.
- Press the Connect button to establish the connection to your Oracle database. If the connection credentials you specified are wrong, the application will display the error message.
- Select the TNS mode option in the Connection mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to the Oracle database in TNS mode.
- Specify the Connection ID in the appropriate field. You can enter it manually, select it from the drop-down list (if it has been used already) or load it from your local TNSNames.ora file.
- Enter User name (can be selected from the list of previously used usernames).
- Enter the Password to complete the information about Oracle database connection.
- Press the Connect button to establish the connection to your Oracle database. If the connection credentials you specified are wrong, the application will display the error message.
- Choose the Connection String option in the Connection mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to the Oracle database using a special connection string.
- Enter the Connection string manually or edit the proposed one.
- Press the Connect button to establish the connection to your Oracle database. If the connection credentials you specified are wrong, the application will display the error message.
