Connecting to an Amazon Redshift database

Use the following procedure to connect to your Amazon Redshift database.

  1. Click the New icon in the Project panel at the top left corner of the window.

  2. Select Amazon Redshift in the Platform drop-down list at the top of the dialog box.

    • If you need to connect to your Amazon Redshift data warehouse using ODBC, and the ODBC driver is not installed on your PC, you will need to install it. For more information, see Installing the Required Database Drivers.

    • After installing the driver, restart the Database Compare Suite application and get back to item # 1.

  3. Select the Standard option in the Mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to Amazon Redshift database in the standard mode.

    • Select the Provider type from the drop-down list. Select the Integrated option to connect to your Amazon Redshift database using OLE DB. Select the Amazon Redshift (x64) option to connect to your Amazon Redshift database using ODBC.

    • Specify the Server name in the appropriate field. You can enter it manually or select it from the drop-down list (if it has been already used).

    • Provide the rest of connection information to the Amazon Redshift database: Server Port, Database name and Username. You can enter these values manually or select them from drop-down lists.

    • Enter the Password to complete the information about Amazon Redshift database connection.

    • Check the Use SSL option to establish a secure connection to the Amazon Redshift database.

    • Press the Test button to verify that you can successfully connect to your Amazon Redshift database.

  4. Select the ConnectionString option in the Mode drop-down list if you would like to connect to Amazon Redshift database, using the connection string.

    • Enter the Connection string manually or select from the drop-down list (if it has been already used).

    • Find the connection string template below. Use it as an example to create a connection string that allows to connect to your Amazon Redshift database using ODBC:

      Driver={Amazon Redshift (x64)};Server=redshift_server.redshift.amazonaws.com;Port=5439;Database=redshift_db;Uid=redshift_user;Pwd=pass;SslMode=Disable;UseUnicode=True;UseDeclareFetch=1;Fetch=100000;
    • Find the connection string template below. Use it as an example to create a connection string that allows to connect to your Amazon Redshift database using OLE DB:

      Server Compatibility Mode=Redshift;Enlist=False;Host=reshift_server.redshift.amazonaws.com;Port=5439;Database=redshift_db;Username=redshift_user;Password=pass;SSL Mode=Disable;Application Name="DB Best Database Compare Suite";Timeout=300;
    • Press the Test button to verify that you can successfully connect to your Amazon Redshift database.
